Monica (Hartley) Scott , 64 years old, beloved wife and
Mother, passed away on Wednesday, 27 May 2009 in her home in Lompoc,
California. She leaves her husband of 39 1/2 years, Jim, her Daughter,
Gina, 41, and two Step sons, James Nathan, 46, of Santa Barbara,
and Ronald, 48, of Westlake Village and three Grandchildren.
Monica January 17, 1945 - May 27, 2009
Monica was born on the 17th day of January 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia. Later she moved to Ormond Beach, Florida with her parents Irene and Willie Pate Hartley where Monica attended High School. She worked as a waitress at various spots in the Daytona Beach area after graduation and was also married. She had a lovely daughter, Gina, on the 4th day of December 1967 with her first husband. In 1969 Monica went to work at an Italian Restaurant called Tony and Jerrys where a young and aggressive Umpire, Jim Scott, tried to date her. For six weeks she turned him down but he didnt give up and she spent his last day in Daytona with him for 3 hours talking and getting to know each other. She corresponded with the Jim through the baseball season and through the following winter. When he came back to Daytona in the spring of 1970, Jim asked Monica to marry him and they were married in Fulton, Georgia on the 26th of February 1970.
Jim and Monica spent the first part of their marriage in La Mirada, California and moved to Lompoc in February of 1981 where Jim went to work for Martin Marietta on the Space Shuttle program. Monica worked at Western Star Distributors and a few other Companies in the Lompoc, Buellton area. Monica was very proud of her Daughter, Gina, and her Step-Son Ron (Who she referred to as her son). Ron attended Neff High School in La Mirada and graduated with a double major in Math and Economics from Occidental College. Gina attended Lompoc High and graduated from Fresno State earning both her Bachelors and Masters degree. Monica is best known to the many Bowlers of the Lompoc area for being the bartender at the local lanes where her greetings were always a smile and a good word along with her knowing what you wanted the moment you walked in the door without saying a word.
Monica had a back operation in December of 2006 which never really took and she had been in constant pain since and having to walk with a cane. She had very limited movement in her left leg and was also hampered by congenital Heart Failure. She is missed and will always be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.
